Our Y3 pupils will explore early human history and changes in Britain during the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age in this exciting, hands-on workshop. They will learn about how we find out about the past by the messages left behind by these prehistoric communities, examine what life was like for people living at the time and how technology, lifestyle and community changed between the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age periods. This is a comparative study of the three periods to demonstrate continuity and change, but focuses mainly on the Stone Age and how things changed from then on.
On the day typical activities include: the use of fire (bow drill and flint), outdoor cooking, methods of communication (cave painting and/or storytelling), corn grinding and shelter building. Tatton Park also have a range of replica Stone Age tools for children to handle during the workshop. Pupils will also be introduced to how we learn about the past by artefacts recovered in archaeological digs, or by messages left behind by people living at the time - for instance, cave painting.
