At Devonshire Road Primary School, we are a Centre of Excellence for Financial Education and we believe teaching children Financial Education at Primary level enhances Financial Wellbeing and prepares students to understand and manage their income more effectively as adults.  We are committed to teaching the children about financial education, particularly, how to manage their own money.

Each year, Year 1, Year 3 and Year 4 take part in lessons focused on 'Financial Capability and Economic Wellbeing' as part of our PSHE curriculum offer. In Year 5 and Year 6, children take part in additional workshops delivered by Debt Aware, a company who strive to help children build money skills for life. The children love the sessions, and learn about things such as VAT, the dangers of gambling, salaries, and mortgages.

Children also learn about budgeting through our annual Enterprise Event, too, where children learn how to start with a small budget and grow it as much as they can by working together as a class. This is done in a safe yet competitive way to earn as much profit as they can for the school. In recent years, the children have raised over £1000, which was then used to invest in new playground equipment for the school.
